CONTENT

The bill would amend the Michigan Election Law to allow a qualifying State-level political party to change its name to that of the national political party if the national political party affiliate changed its name.

Specifically, if a State political party were qualified to have the names of its candidates printed in a separate party column on each election ballot and that party was affiliated with a national political party that changed its name, the State political party could change its name to that of the national party if, by 4 PM of the 110th day before a general election, the chairperson and secretary of the State central committee of that State political party filed with the Secretary of State a certificate, signed by the chairperson and secretary of the State central committee of the State party, that indicated the name change of the State party.
