1 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2 Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §2405, sub-§10, as enacted by PL 2019, c. 307, §2, is amended
3 to read:
4 10. Limit on number of public charter schools. No more than The commission is
5 limited to authorizing 10 public charter schools may that operate at any the same time. Any
6 time the cap is reached, the commissioner may not accept further registrations from the
7 commission or from local school boards and collaboratives of local school boards.
8 Notwithstanding this cap, local school boards and collaboratives of local school boards
9 may authorize public charter schools in their school administrative units in accordance with
10 the provisions of this chapter.
11 SUMMARY
12 This bill provides that local school boards and collaboratives of local school boards
13 may authorize public charter schools in their school administrative units after the cap on
14 the number of public charter schools authorized by the Maine Charter School Commission
15 is reached.
