1 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2 Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2063, sub-§2-B is enacted to read:
3 2-B. Riding to right. A person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall operate in
4 single file with other bicyclists when being overtaken by a motor vehicle.
5 Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §2063, sub-§7, as amended by PL 2015, c. 164, §6, is further
6 amended to read:
7 7. Penalties. A person 17 years of age or over who violates subsection 2, 2-B, 3, 3-A,
8 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13 commits a traffic infraction for which a fine of not less than $25
9 and not more than $250 may be adjudged. A person under 17 years of age is not subject to
10 a fine under this section.
11 SUMMARY
12 This bill requires bicyclists operating on a roadway to ride in single file while being
13 overtaken by motor vehicles and makes the failure to do so a traffic infraction.
