1 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2 Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §111, sub-§2, as amended by PL 2005, c. 387, §1, is further
3 amended to read:
4 2. Age. The Except as provided in Title 30-A, section 2501, subsection 2, the person
5 must be at least 18 years of age, except that, to vote in a political party's primary election
6 or municipal caucus, the person must be at least 18 years of age as of the date of the next
7 general election.
8 Sec. 2. 30-A MRSA §2501, sub-§2, as enacted by PL 1989, c. 104, Pt. C, §10 and
9 Pt. D, §2, is amended to read:
10 2. Qualifications for voting. The qualifications for voting in a municipal election
11 conducted under this Title are governed solely by Title 21‑A, section 111, except that a
12 person must be at least 16 years of age to vote in a municipal election conducted under this
13 Title.
14 SUMMARY
15 This bill lowers the voting age for municipal elections to 16 years of age.
