1 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2 Sec. 1. 22 MRSA §2511, sub-§11, as amended by PL 2013, c. 252, §1, is further
3 amended to read:
4 11. Custom slaughterhouse. "Custom slaughterhouse" means a person who
5 maintains a slaughtering facility that is a licensed establishment or a registered
6 establishment under this chapter for the purposes of slaughtering livestock or poultry for
7 another person's exclusive use by that person and members of that person's household and
8 that person's nonpaying guests and employees, and who is not engaged in the business of
9 buying or selling carcasses, parts of carcasses, meat or meat food products or any cattle,
10 domesticated deer, sheep, swine, goats, domestic rabbits, equines, poultry or other
11 designated animals useable as human food, except that a custom slaughterhouse may
12 produce cuts of meat to be sold commercially in the State pursuant to section 2517-F.
13 Sec. 2. 22 MRSA §2517-F is enacted to read:
14 §2517-F. Custom slaughterhouse; cuts of meat sold commercially
15 A custom slaughterhouse may produce cuts of meat to be sold commercially in the
16 State.
17 SUMMARY
18 This bill authorizes custom slaughterhouses to produce cuts of meat to be sold
19 commercially in the State.
