1 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2 Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §1751, sub-§1-A is enacted to read:
3 1-A. Exception; new motor vehicles. Notwithstanding subsection 1, a new motor
4 vehicle that has had an inspection under this section is not required to have another
5 inspection until 2 years from the last day of the month in which it was initially registered.
6 For purposes of this subsection, "new motor vehicle" means a motor vehicle that has not
7 been previously titled and registered and does not include a commercial motor vehicle,
8 trailer or semitrailer.
9 SUMMARY
10 This bill provides that a new motor vehicle that has had an inspection is not required
11 to have another inspection until 2 years from the last day of the month in which it was
12 initially registered. After this time period has passed, the motor vehicle is required to have
13 an annual motor vehicle safety inspection.
