A BILL ENTITLED
1 AN ACT concerning
2 Public Safety – Elevator Inspections – Transit Compact Authority
3 FOR the purpose of establishing that certain provisions of law relating to the inspections
4 of elevators do not apply to elevators installed in a building or structure that is
5 owned, operated, or controlled by a certain transit compact authority under certain
6 circumstances; and generally relating to elevator inspections.
7 BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

12 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND,
13 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
14 Article – Public Safety
15 12–804.
16 (a) (1) Part II of this subtitle does not apply to an elevator unit that is:
17 (i) except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, installed
18 in a privately owned single–family residential dwelling; [or]
19 (ii) installed in a building or structure under federal control or
20 regulation; OR
21 (III) INSTALLED IN A BUILDING OR STRUCTURE OWNED,
22 OPERATED, OR CONTROLLED BY A TRANSIT COMPACT AUTHORITY WITH OVERSIGHT
EXPLANATION: CAPITALS INDICATE MATTER ADDED TO EXISTING LAW.

3 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
4 October 1, 2021.
