An Act relative to paid family leave coverage for quarantine.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. Subsection (a) of Section 2 of Chapter 175M of the General Laws is hereby
2 amended by inserting the following new subsection after subsection (a)(2):
3 (3) Medical leave shall be available to any covered individual who is advised by a
4 health care provider to self-quarantine due to his or her potential exposure to a pathogen for
5 which a public health emergency has been declared by the Federal, State, or local authorities,
6 regardless of whether the covered individual is symptomatic or asymptomatic. If one covered
7 individual received advice from a health care provider that advised other members of their
8 household to self-quarantine, the other covered individual in the household does not need to
9 secure their own separate advice from a health care provider for coverage to self-quarantine
10 under this subsection. The length of the quarantine shall be consistent with the guidance issued
11 by the relevant Federal, State, or local authority regarding the health emergency. The 7 day
12 waiting period for medical leave shall not be required.
