An Act establishing a hate crimes grant program.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
of the same, as follows:
1 Chapter 69 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 1P the
2 following section:-
3 Section 1Q. The department of elementary and secondary education, in coordination with
4 the executive office of public safety and security and the Massachusetts governor’s hate crimes
5 task force, shall establish a grant program, subject to appropriation, for the education and
6 prevention of hate crimes and incidences of bias in public schools. The grants shall be used for
7 education and prevention programs in school districts for the purposes of education, professional
8 development, prevention, or community outreach. The department shall develop guidelines
9 governing the implementation of this grant program. In awarding grants, priority shall be given
10 to communities with an identified need.
