The committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, to
whom was referred the petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 4103) of
William J. Driscoll, Jr., that the Department of Conservation and Recreation
be authorized to establish a memorial bench in Pope John Paul II Park in
the city of Boston in memory of Robert M. “Bobby” Mudge, reports
recommending that the accompanying bill (House, No. 4195) ought to pass.

An Act establishing a memorial bench in Pope John Paul II Park in the city of Boston in memory
of Robert M.”Bobby” Mudge.
Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to
place a bench in Pope John Paul II Park in memory of Robert M. “Bobby” Mudge, therefore it is
hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public
convenience.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
of the same, as follows:
1 A black metal bench shall be installed and maintained in Pope John Paul II Park which is
2 under the care and control of the department of conservation and recreation, located in the
3 Dorchester section of the city of Boston in memory of Robert M. “Bobby” Mudge who served
4 honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
5 The bench shall face the Neponset river and be located along a park trail or
6 roadway at the point closest to the Courtland circle neighborhood which is across the river in the
7 town of Milton.
8 The department in installing the bench shall affix a suitable plaque, in accordance
9 with the standards of the department, which shall include the inscription:

10 “In memory of Robert M. ‘Bobby’ Mudge, a decorated United States Marine Corps
11 veteran of the Vietnam War, and a longtime resident of the town of Milton who walked often in
12 Pope John Paul II Park and fished nearby in the Neponset river”.
