EXPENDITURE EXPLANATION

REVENUE EXPLANATION
There will be an increase in revenue to the Judicial Expense Fund for the 19th Judicial District Family Court. R.S. 13:966.3
provides for the statutory amount of local filing fees that are to be deposited into the Judicial Expense Fund for the family
court. The proposed legislation increases the statutory amount from $25 to $35 per filing. The Judicial Expense Fund is used
to fund the salaries for court staff and other operational expenses.
For illustrative purposes only: According to the Judicial Administrator for the 19th JDC Family Court, there were 5,673 filings
in calendar year 2021 which resulted in total collections of $114,917. Fees were not collected on all of those filings as some
parties were granted fee waivers and other parties paid partial fees. However, if the family court had collected the full fees
and $25 was transferred to the Judicial Expense Fund on all filings, the total revenue collected would have been $141,825.
Under the proposed law, $35 will be transferred to the Judicial Expense Fund on those 5,673 filings resulting in revenue
collections of $198,555.
