HB 600 2021 Regular Session Goudeau
PROPERTY/PUBLIC: Exempts certain property belonging to Lafayette and Lafayette
Parish from third party transfer requirements.
DIGEST
Present law requires that when the state or any political subdivision of the state acquires any
property which it subsequently wishes to transfer to another person, the owner who
transferred it to the state or the political subdivision must first be offered the property at fair
market value.
Present law provides for exemptions to this requirement, including property acquired or
transferred by the governing authority of the city of Shreveport or the governing authority of
Caddo Parish.
Proposed law further exempts property acquired or transferred by the governing authorities
of the city of Lafayette and Lafayette Parish. Proposed law requires a reasonable attempt to
notify the prior owners, their heirs or successors, in order for the governing authorities of the
city of Shreveport, Caddo Parish, the city of Lafayette, or Lafayette Parish to use this
exemption.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
