Provides relative to required instruction in American history and civics in public schools
Proposed legislation provides additions to the list of topics on which public schools must provide information as part of
required instruction on the Founding Principles of the United States of America. Instruction must include national sovereignty
and “The ideas and form of government that make the American experiment unique.” Provides that such instruction may be
incorporated into an existing course. Requires the provision of age and grade appropriate instruction in civics to public school
students in grades Kindergarten through 8. Provides for the required founding principals and materials to be included in that
instruction. Repeals existing statute requiring study of the Declaration of Independence in elementary schools and the
Federalist Papers in high schools. Requires that textbooks and materials used in the instruction accurately reflect an
understanding of the history and values of the people of the United States and Louisiana.
