Calls a special statewide election for submitting proposed constitutional amendments to the state's electors. (gov sig)
Proposed law provides for a special statewide election to be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, to submit proposed
constitutional amendments passed during the 2021 Regular Session. Proposed law will be null and void if no proposed
constitutional amendment specifies the statewide election on October 9, 2021. Proposed law provides that the election will
be held in compliance with applicable provisions of the LA Election Code (Title 18 of the LA Revised Statutes).

EXPENDITURE EXPLANATION
Proposed law will increase expenditures by $2 M in FY 22. The proposed law calls for a special statewide election to be held
on Saturday, October 9, 2021, for proposed constitutional amendments passed during the 2021 Regular Session. In the
Governor’s Executive Budget (HB 1 Original), the Secretary of State (SOS) has $13.9 M SGF budgeted for four non-
statewide elections in FY 22. The scheduled October 9, 2021, election is an open/municipal primary election that is
anticipated to cost $4,045,000. Statewide elections cost approximately $6 M. To change the October 9, 2021, election into
a statewide election with constitutional amendments will requires an additional $2 M appropriation to SOS.
REVENUE EXPLANATION
There is no anticipated direct material effect on governmental revenues as a result of this measure.
