ACT 149 (HB 66) 2021 Regular Session Kerner
Existing law authorizes a municipality to dispose of property that is not needed for public
purposes. Generally requires the municipality to introduce an ordinance giving the reasons
for the action and fixing the minimum price and terms of the contract to be made with
reference to the property. Provides for public notice regarding the ordinance and for filing
of opposition to the ordinance. Provides exceptions.
New law authorizes a municipality to establish any procedure it deems appropriate for the
private sale of a police dog that is no longer needed for police work to a police officer who
trained or worked with the dog in exchange for consideration proportionate to the value of
the dog.
Effective August 1, 2021.
