Increases certain weights and measures registration and license fees under the jurisdiction of the Department of Agriculture
and Forestry
Proposed law increases the fees for certain weights and measures registration and license fees under the jurisdiction of the
Department of Agriculture and Forestry in present law as follows: Category 1 from $35 to a range of up to $50; Category 2
from $80 to a range of up to $135; and Category 3 from $185 to a range of up to $250. Proposed law increases the
weighmaster license fee from $75 to $100. Proposed law increases the registration fee for each service person from $50 to
$65.

EXPENDITURE EXPLANATION
Although the proposed law does not require additional expenditures, expenditures could increase to the extent additional
revenues are generated by the fee increases and subsequently appropriated by the legislature. The LA Department of
Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) reports that funds will be used to maintain sustainability for the Weights and Measures
Division, including modernization of equipment and purchase of vehicles.
REVENUE EXPLANATION
Proposed law will significantly increase statutorily dedicated revenues to Weights and Measures Fund from increased fees
related to the registration of commercial weighing and measuring devices, weighmaster licenses, and registration of service
persons. Based on the prior year’s collections on registration fees for commercial weighing and measuring devices, the LA
Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) anticipates the proposed law will increase statutorily dedicated revenue from
the Weights and Measure Fund by $619,185 annually. The estimate assumes the same number of registrations and
inspections as prior years.
