ACT 19 (HB 48) 2020 Second Extraordinary Session Duplessis
Existing law requires individuals to identify themselves as a prerequisite to voting and
provides that acceptable means of identification are a La. driver's license, La. special
identification card, or other generally recognized picture identification card that contains the
person's name and signature.
Existing law requires that a student identification card from a four-year public postsecondary
education institution contain the elements of a generally recognized picture identification
card.
New law makes this requirement applicable to each member institution of the La. Assoc. of
Independent Colleges and Universities and the La. Community and Technical College
System.
Existing law provides for a maximum period of validity for such student identification cards.
Prior law provided that the period was four years. New law provides that it is six years.
Effective Jan. 1, 2023.
