Present law provides for the creation of the Lakeshore Crime Prevention District in Orleans Parish
as a political subdivision for the purpose of aiding in crime prevention and adding to the security of
district residents by providing for an increase in the presence of law enforcement personnel in the
district.
Present law provides that the district shall be governed by a nine member board of commissioners
as follows:
(1) One member appointed by the members of the La. House of Representatives who represent
the area which comprises the district.

comprises the district.
(3) One member appointed by the assessor for the second municipal district.

(5) One member appointed by the council members who represent the district.
(6) Two members appointed by the board of the West Lakeshore Citizens Against Crime, Inc.
(7) Two members appointed by the board of the East Lakeshore Citizens Against Crime, Inc.
Proposed law removes the authority of the assessor for the second municipal district to appoint a
member to the board. Proposed law provides that the board of the Lakeshore Property Owners
Association shall appoint one member to the board of commissioners. Proposed law otherwise
retains present law.
Provides that the term of office of member appointed by the assessor for the second municipal
district shall terminate on the effective date of proposed law. Further provides that such member
