Brief*
SR 1725 would approve an amendment to the gaming
compact between the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and
the State of Kansas. [Note: The proposed amendments would
create and amend provisions concerning sports wagering
operations on the Nation’s reservation lands.]

Background
The resolution was introduced by the Joint Committee
on State-Tribal Relations.
[Note: Similar provisions are also contained in House
Resolution No. 6026.]

Joint Committee on State-Tribal Relations
In the hearing on the compact amendments, testimony
was provided by representatives of the Office of the Attorney
General, Office of the Governor, and Prairie Band
Potawatomi Nation. The conferees provided information
about the negotiations and proposed amendments to the
gaming compact between the Prairie Band Potawatomi
Nation and the State of Kansas and the impact of recent
legislation. [Note: Recent legislation enacted concerning
gaming includes 2023 Senate Sub. for HB 2058 (amending

Senate Action
On April 28, 2023, the Senate adopted the resolution on
