SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for HB 2344 by House Committee on Elections
In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning HB 2344 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.
HB 2344 would amend existing law to make the County Sheriff in Riley County an elective
office with a four-year term beginning in the 2022 election cycle. The bill would abolish the Riley
County Law Enforcement Agency on the second Monday of January, 2023, and transfer all
powers, duties and responsibilities of the Agency to the County Sheriff and County Sheriff’s
department on that date.
The Kansas Association of Counties indicates that enactment of HB 2344 would have a
fiscal effect on Riley County, but is unable to estimate what that effect might amount to.
