SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON SENATE BILL NO. 179

Brief*
SB 179 would designate February 15 of each year, the
anniversary of the birth of Susan B. Anthony, as Susan B.
Anthony Day in the state of Kansas.
The bill would be in effect upon publication in the
Kansas Register.

Background
The bill was introduced by Senator Pittman.

Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs
In the Senate Committee hearing, Senator Pittman and
two private citizens provided proponent testimony, stating
that designating the holiday in statute would honor Susan B.
Anthony’s ties to Leavenworth, Kansas, and her advocacy for
voting rights, and that the bill had been introduced on behalf
of the Leavenworth County Historical Society.
Written-only proponent testimony was provided by the
League of Women Voters, the Leavenworth Convention and
Visitors Bureau, and 11 private citizens.
No neutral or opponent testimony was provided.
