The Honorable Kent Thompson, Chairperson
House Committee on Local Government
Statehouse, Room 187-N
Topeka, Kansas 66612
Dear Representative Thompson:
SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for HB 2236 by Representative Rhiley
In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning HB 2236 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.
HB 2236 would allow cause for suspension or termination of a county appraiser if property
owners of 4.0 percent or more of all parcels classified as real property used for commercial and
industrial purposes or 2.0 percent or more of all parcels of the remaining classes of properties in a
county apply for an informal hearing on the parcel’s property valuation in a calendar year.
Enactment of HB 2236 would have no fiscal effect on the state. The Kansas Association
of Counties indicates that a fiscal effect could occur when an appraiser is suspended or terminated
and the county would have to hire a contractor to perform the work.

Sincerely,

Larry L. Campbell
Director of the Budget
