SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for HB 2222 by Representative Alcala
In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning HB 2222 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.
HB 2222 would amend the Kansas Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act to define “single-use
plastic straw” and prohibit any food establishment from providing these straws to consumers for
purchase or at no charge. The prohibition would not apply to retail sales of single-use plastic
straws by grocery or convenience stores.
According to the Kansas Department of Agriculture, enactment of HB 2222 would have
no fiscal effect on the agency.
