The Honorable Gene Suellentrop, Chairperson
Senate Committee on Public Health and Welfare
Statehouse, Room 441-E
Topeka, Kansas 66612
Dear Senator Suellentrop:
SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for SB 48 by Senate Committee on Public Health and Welfare
In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning SB 48 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.
SB 48 would allow the legal next-of-kin to a deceased person to determine a location of
where the deceased could be transferred. Current law allows a dead human body to be transferred
only to certain locations, including a funeral establishment, crematory, a coroner, the University
of Kansas Medical Center, or a certified organ procurement organization.
According to the Board of Mortuary Arts, enactment of SB 48 would have no fiscal effect
on the agency.

Sincerely,

Larry L. Campbell
Director of the Budget
