The Honorable Russell Jennings, Chairperson
House Committee on Corrections and Juvenile Justice
Statehouse, Room 151-S
Topeka, Kansas 66612
Dear Representative Jennings:
SUBJECT: Fiscal Note for HB 2046 by House Committee on Corrections and Juvenile
Justice
In accordance with KSA 75-3715a, the following fiscal note concerning HB 2046 is
respectfully submitted to your committee.
HB 2046 would amend current law to allow the court to direct concurrent or consecutive
sentences for any person convicted and sentenced for a crime while on release for a felony under
Article 28 of Chapter 22 of the Kansas Statutes Annotated. Under current law, the sentence can
be served only consecutively.
The Kansas Sentencing Commission indicates the bill could affect prison admissions and
bed space but the Commission is unable to estimate what the effect would be. The bill would not
have a fiscal effect on the workload of the Commission. The Office of Judicial Administration
states the bill would have no fiscal effect on the Judicial Branch.

Sincerely,

Larry L. Campbell
Director of the budget
