SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Raymond Davis
2 Jr.

4 Whereas, Raymond Davis Jr. of East Chicago, Indiana,
5 passed away on March 23, 2021, at the age of 76;
6 Whereas, Born on March 25, 1944, as the fourth of seven
7 children to Raymond and Elizabeth Davis, Raymond grew up
8 in Russell County, Alabama;
9 Whereas, A man of faith, Raymond was baptized at Bethel
10 A.M.E Church in Russell County, Alabama;
11 Whereas, After graduating from Russell County Training
12 School in Hurtsboro, Alabama, Raymond bravely and dutifully
13 served as a soldier in the Vietnam War;
14 Whereas, Raymond earned his Associate of Arts Degree in
15 Management from Calumet College of St. Joseph, and worked
16 for the Amoco Oil Refinery in East Chicago, Indiana, for 20
17 years, whereupon he retired to become an independent
18 contractor;

1 Whereas, Raymond's impact on the St. Mark A.M.E. Zion
2 Church in East Chicago will continue to be deeply felt, as he
3 was an integral member of the Church, and served as a member
4 of Usher Board No. 2 and on the Board of Trustees;
5 Whereas, A valued and longstanding community member,
6 Raymond lived in the Calumet and New Addition
7 neighborhoods of East Chicago for more than 50 years;
8 Whereas, A loving father, brother, and uncle, Raymond is
9 survived by and will be deeply missed by his daughters, Tammi
10 Davis and Michelle (Anthony) Davis Asberry; his son, Calvin
11 Davis; his three sisters, Dorothy (Robert) Wells, Juanita Wiggs,
12 and Ernestine (Jerry) Wingfield; his nieces and nephews,
13 Clarke Jackson, Sharon Jackson, Kimberly Reynolds, Rochelle
14 Reynolds, Geneva Wiggs, and Shawn Davis, as well as
15 innumerable family and friends; and
16 Whereas, Raymond's steadfast love and dedication to his
17 community, church, and family are unparalleled and will be
18 greatly missed: Therefore,
19 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
20 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
21 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate memorializes
22 Raymond Davis Jr.
23 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
24 to transmit copies of this Resolution to Tammi Davis, Michelle
25 Davis Asberry, and Calvin Davis.
