1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the
2 Valparaiso High School Vikings gymnastics team on winning
3 the 2021 Indiana High School Athletic Association ("IHSAA")
4 championship title.
5 Whereas, The Valparaiso High School Vikings gymnastics
6 team won the 2021 IHSAA gymnastics championship title after
7 defeating eight other teams in the IHSAA State Finals
8 gymnastics meet;
9 Whereas, The Vikings earned the school's 27th trip to the
10 State Finals, a state record, after finishing Regionals with
11 29.050 points on balance beam and stellar performances from
12 all team members;
13 Whereas, The team consists of teammates Makiah Breland,
14 Mia Curran, Molly Dreher, Sabrina Falk, Gabriella Grisafi,
15 Olivia Lozano, Emma Lily Moorehead, Chloe Ochman, Ava
16 Platipodis, Allison Rospond, Brooklyn Smiley, Jade VerSchure,
17 and Lauren Winkle, and is led by Head Coach Lorie Cook,
18 Assistant Coaches Megan Nellessen, Angie Moon, and
19 Gretchen VerSchure, Volunteer Assistant Coach Becky
20 Juergens, Athletic Director Stacy Adams, Principal Dr.
21 Veronica Tobon, and Superintendent Dr. Jim McCall;
22 Whereas, During the State Finals, the Vikings earned the
23 top place with a team score of 111.300, with team members
24 Gabriella Grisafi placing sixth on uneven bars and beam,
25 seventh All Around, and earning All State honors, Molly Dreher
26 earning All State honors, and Sabrina Falk earning second

1 team All State honors;
2 Whereas, Following the meet, Sabrina Falk was awarded
3 the IHSAA Mildred M. Ball Mental Attitude Award by the
4 members of the IHSAA Executive Committee to honor her
5 positive mental attitude and commitment to scholarship,
6 leadership, and athletic ability in gymnastics;
7 Whereas, This is a record-setting thirteenth state
8 championship win for the Vikings and under Head Coach Lorie
9 Cook, who has mentored the Vikings for forty-six years; and
10 Whereas, The Valparaiso Vikings' hard work, grit, and
11 determination were key to the team's victory in the state
12 championship gymnastics meet: Therefore,
13 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
14 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
15 concurring:
16 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly
17 congratulates the Valparaiso High School Vikings gymnastics
18 team for winning the 2021 IHSAA gymnastics state
19 tournament.
20 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
21 to transmit copies of this Resolution to each member of the
22 Valparaiso High School Vikings gymnastics team.
