SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing the week of
2 January 31 - February 6, 2021, as National Catholic Schools
3 Week.
4 Whereas, Catholic schools in the United States are
5 internationally acclaimed for their academic excellence and for
6 providing students with exceptional scholastic education;
7 Whereas, The instruction method utilized across Catholic
8 schools emphasizes the importance of the moral, intellectual,
9 physical, and social development of young persons;
10 Whereas, Nearly 1,650,000 students are enrolled in
11 Catholic schools throughout the country for the 2020-2021
12 academic year, with an average student-teacher ratio of twelve
13 to one;
14 Whereas, Catholic high schools maintain an average
15 graduation rate of 99 percent, with 85.2 percent of graduates
16 attending four-year colleges;
17 Whereas, Of Indiana's nearly 200 Catholic schools across
18 five dioceses, many have been listed as National Blue Ribbon

1 Schools, with a number of schools receiving the award multiple
2 times;
3 Whereas, National Catholic Schools Week was first
4 established in 1974 to showcase Catholic education across the
5 United States and has been celebrated annually for the past
6 forty-seven years;
7 Whereas, The week of January 31 to February 6, 2021, has
8 been designated as National Catholic Schools Week by the
9 National Catholic Educational Association; and
10 Whereas, The National Catholic Schools Week was
11 celebrated in schools across Indiana, including Queen of All
12 Saints Catholic School, which was founded by the Sisters of the
13 Holy Cross in 1952 to serve the parishioners of Queen of All
14 Saints Church and the residents of Michigan City, Indiana:
15 Therefore,
16 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
17 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
18 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate recognizes National
19 Catholic Schools Week and the contributions Catholic schools
20 have made to the academic success of Hoosier children.
21 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
22 to transmit copies of this Resolution to Queen of All Saints
23 Catholic School.
