1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Juan Andrade Jr.
2 for being named a 2020 Top 50 Latino influencer.
3 Whereas, Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. was a political commentator
4 on ABC 7 television and over the radio at WGN radio. He was
5 also a columnist for the Chicago Sun Times. Dr. Andrade is the
6 only national Latino leader to be regularly featured on English
7 and Spanish language radio and television;
8 Whereas, Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. is a champion for education
9 and continual personal and professional development, having
10 earned five degrees as well as five honorary doctorates. Dr.
11 Andrade is recognized as a distinguished alumnus by Howard
12 Payne University, Northern Illinois University, and Loyola
13 University Chicago;
14 Whereas, Dr. Andrade has made a global impact by working

1 towards establishing a democracy in Mexico, Guatemala,
2 Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Paraguay, Bolivia, Guyana,
3 Suriname, and Haiti;
4 Whereas, Henry "Hank" Lacayo, Ray Gonzalez, and Willie
5 Velasquez were crucial in helping Dr. Andrade in the founding
6 of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute in 1982,
7 where Dr. Andrade remains as the president;
8 Whereas, The United States Hispanic Leadership Institute
9 has registered 2.3 million voters, published 425 Latino
10 demographics studies, trained more than one million present
11 and future leaders, and awarded more than $1.3 million in
12 scholarships and internships;
13 Whereas, Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. is one of four Latinos to be
14 honored by both the United States and Mexico. He received the
15 Presidential Citizens Medal for exemplary deeds and service to
16 the United States from former president Bill Clinton. He
17 received the National Ohtli Award for service to the
18 Mexican-American community from Ambassador Arturo
19 Sarukhán on behalf of the former president of Mexico, Felipe
20 Calderón;
21 Whereas, Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. was awarded the Medallion
22 for Leadership from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and the
23 Medallion of Excellence from the Congressional Hispanic
24 Caucus Institute. He was inducted into the "Society of Life
25 Models" by OMNI Youth Services and was awarded the Eagle
26 Award by the Latino Leaders Network; and
27 Whereas, Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. has been recognized five
28 separate times as one of the Most Influential Hispanics in
29 America. Most recently, Dr. Andrade was named one of the 50
30 Most Influential Latinos of 2020 by Negocios Now: Therefore,
31 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
32 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
33 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
34 honors Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. for his years of hard work and
35 dedication to the Hispanic community across the United States

1 and for the positive impact his work has on the residents of
2 Indiana.
3 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
4 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
5 office of State Representative Mike Andrade.
