SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Steven J. Jacob.
2 Whereas, Steven "Steve" J. Jacob of Whitestown, Indiana,
3 passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at the age of 74;
4 Whereas, Steve was born on March 16, 1947, in Jasonville,
5 Indiana, to William and Marietta Jacob, and grew up on their
6 self-made farm in a loving home;
7 Whereas, Steve took to basketball from a young age,
8 learning to play in the hay loft of the family barn, and to this
9 day holds several Shakamak High School records;
10 Whereas, Steve was the first person in his family to enroll
11 in college, attending Purdue University to pursue a bachelor's
12 degree in science;
13 Whereas, While at Purdue, Steve met the love of his life,
14 Janet, who got his attention by spilling acid on his shirt during
15 chemistry class;
16 Whereas, Steve and Janet graduated, married, and moved
17 to Boone County to pursue his career at Indiana Bell Telephone

1 Company;
2 Whereas, As a result of his outstanding work at Indiana
3 Bell, Steve was awarded a Congressional Fellowship in
4 Washington, D.C., to lobby for the telecom industry;
5 Whereas, By the end of his time at Indiana Bell, Steve had
6 been promoted to the Vice-President of Ameritech;
7 Whereas, Steve finished his career in the private sector at
8 Woolpert Engineering and Time Warner Telecom;
9 Whereas, Steve dedicated much of his life to supporting his
10 community, serving on the Boone County Council for more than
11 twenty years and spending the last years of his life as the
12 Council President;
13 Whereas, Steve also served as President of the Boone
14 County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Vice-Chairman of the
15 Boone County Republican Central Committee, President of the
16 Zionsville Youth Soccer Association, Vice President of the
17 South Bend Zoological Society, a member of the Boone County
18 Economic Development Corporation's Executive Committee, on
19 the board of the St. Joseph County Economic Development
20 Corporation, and was the St. Joseph County Republican
21 Precinct Chairman;
22 Whereas, Steve was also involved in the Zionsville Rotary
23 Club, the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the South Bend
24 Rotary Club, and the Rotary Club of McLean, Virginia;
25 Whereas, When not serving his community, Steve was
26 passionate about the outdoors and considered himself an avid
27 bird watcher, woodworker, and angler, spending his golden
28 years fishing for walleye at Dogtooth Lake, Ontario, and at his
29 pond in Whitestown;
30 Whereas, Through Steve's service to Boone County, his

1 family, and Hoosiers across the state of Indiana, he has left an
2 enduring legacy, and he will be remembered by all who were
3 lucky enough to have known him; and
4 Whereas, Steve will be missed by his wife Janet, his three
5 children, Jeff (Susan), Jill (Donnie), and Chris, his former
6 son-in-law Jim Guggenhime, and his four adoring grandsons,
7 Will, Cole, Jake, and Henry: Therefore,
8 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
9 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
10 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate memorializes Steven
11 "Steve" J. Jacob.
12 SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby
13 instructed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Janet Green
14 Jacob.
