1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating Sallie Fahey on
2 the occasion of her retirement.
3 Whereas, Sallie Fahey began a long and successful career at
4 the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission in 1973;
5 Whereas, Ms. Fahey was appointed assistant director with
6 the Area Plan Commission in 1989 before being appointed
7 executive director in 2004;
8 Whereas, Ms. Fahey has devoted her career to promoting
9 and facilitating growth in Tippecanoe County and across
10 Indiana;
11 Whereas, Two of Ms. Fahey's most memorable achievements
12 were her work on the U.S. 231 extension and the Hoosier
13 Heartland Highway;

1 Whereas, Ms. Fahey received her bachelor of science degree
2 in housing from Purdue University in 1972, and she earned her
3 master's degree in public policy and public administration from
4 Purdue in 1982;
5 Whereas, Ms. Fahey worked extensively with her alma mater
6 in many roles, including: guest lecturer; planning consultant
7 including highway extensions and model ordinances; visiting
8 instructor teaching 500 level courses; member, Dean's Advisory
9 Council; and board secretary, vice president, and later
10 president for the School of Liberal Arts Alumni Board;
11 Whereas, Ms. Fahey, as executive director for the Area Plan
12 Commission, contributed her knowledge, skill, and expertise to
13 the Purdue Research Foundation regarding the Campus Master
14 Plan, the Purdue amendment to the Metropolitan
15 Transportation Plan, the Discover Park District Plan, and the
16 Aerospace Park Plan;
17 Whereas, Ms. Fahey provided direct assistance to local and
18 state legislators crafting and improving planning,
19 environmental, and related legislation to positively effect
20 change in her communities and the state of Indiana;
21 Whereas, Ms. Fahey remains active in her community and
22 served in many roles, including: board member, League of
23 Women Voters of Greater Lafayette; chair, Prophetstown State
24 Park Planning and Liaison Committee; director, The Museums
25 at Prophetstown, Inc.; and president and executive committee
26 chair of the Lafayette Neighborhood House Service, Inc.;
27 Whereas, Ms. Fahey served as a member of the Great Lakes
28 District Advisory Council as part of the Neighborhood
29 Reinvestment Corporation established by Congress in 1978;
30 Whereas, Ms. Fahey presently serves on the Executive
31 Directors Council for the National Association of Regional
32 Councils;
33 Whereas, Ms. Fahey has for decades shared her knowledge
34 and expertise with published works, international speaking

1 engagements, and participation and leadership in international
2 conferences on planning;
3 Whereas, Ms. Fahey earned many awards and accolades for
4 her work on the local, state, national, and international levels,
5 including: Volunteer of the Year, Partners of the Americas,
6 Inc.; Sagamore of the Wabash, Governor Frank O'Bannon; and
7 Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Governor Brereton C.
8 Jones;
9 Whereas, Ms. Fahey is a devoted civil servant, volunteer,
10 and champion for positive change in her community, the state
11 of Indiana, and the world; and
12 Whereas, Ms. Fahey retires still loving her job: Therefore,
13 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
14 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
15 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
16 congratulates Sallie Fahey on the occasion of her retirement.
17 SECTION 2. That the Indiana House of Representatives
18 honors Sallie Fahey for her many years of service and the
19 positive change that she brings to her community.
20 SECTION 3. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
21 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
22 office of State Representative Chris Campbell for distribution.
