SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Louis Charles
2 Rogers Jr.
3 Whereas, Louis Charles Rogers Jr. of Gary, Indiana,
4 passed away on December 7, 2020;
5 Whereas, Louis, also known as Chuck, was born on July 9,
6 1933, in Cairo, Illinois, to Louis Charles Rogers and Mattie
7 Love;
8 Whereas, A star athlete in high school, Louis was
9 recognized as a consensus high school All-American half-back,
10 and after graduating from East Saint Louis High School in
11 1953, he went on to play football and run track at Indiana
12 University in Bloomington, Indiana;
13 Whereas, Louis had a diverse, successful career, beginning
14 by serving in the Army while simultaneously continuing his
15 athletic career;
16 Whereas, In 1955, Louis married his love, Earline Rogers,
17 and the couple went on to have two children, Keith and Dara,
18 and Louis also was the father of Charles Walker and Ebony

2 Whereas, Inspired by his time spent in the military and as
3 a collegiate athlete, Louis became a coach at Gary Roosevelt
4 High School, coaching football and swimming;
5 Whereas, Louis' commitment to his community shined
6 bright throughout his forty-year career at the Gary Fire
7 Department, eventually retiring as a Battalion Chief at station
8 4, "The Rock";
9 Whereas, A natural leader and giver, Louis taught Black
10 studies at West Side High School, was an active member of his
11 church, St. John Baptist, was a member of the Fire
12 Commission, was elected as Precinct Committeeman in the 3rd
13 district, and played an essential role in his wife, former Indiana
14 State Senator Rogers', political career;
15 Whereas, In his free time, Louis loved to ride his
16 motorcycle, cook, jog, garden, and cheer for his favorite team,
17 the Chicago Bears;
18 Whereas, A respected and revered community member,
19 Louis' laughter, compassion, and smile will stay with all he
20 touched throughout his life; and
21 Whereas, Louis will be incredibly missed and forever loved
22 by his wife, Earline Rogers, his son Keith (Robin) Rogers, his
23 daughter Dara Rogers, his brother Ray (Mae) Rogers, his
24 sisters Janice Murphy, Florence Rogers, and Charlotte
25 McClain, his grandchildren Rahman, Malcolm, Joy, Keith Jr.,
26 Emmett, and Cameron, as well as his many nieces, nephews,
27 other relatives, and friends: Therefore,
28 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
29 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
30 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate memorializes Louis

2 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
3 to transmit copies of this Resolution to his wife, Earline Rogers,
4 his son, Keith Rogers, and his daughter, Dara Rogers.
