1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating the Roncalli
2 Football Team.
3 Whereas, The 2020 Roncalli High School football team won
4 the Indiana High School Athletic Association's 2020 Class 4A
5 state football championship on November 27, 2020;
6 Whereas, The Roncalli football team left Lucas Oil Stadium
7 with their 10th state title, and the Royals finished their season
8 13-1 after weeks of "laser focused" practice and spirited work
9 from each player;
10 Whereas, Roncalli scored on its first possession of the game
11 with an 18-play, 66-yard drive against the Hobart Brickies,
12 who entered the championship game with a 12-1 record;
13 Whereas, The Royals quickly picked up momentum,

1 displaying a longstanding tradition of athleticism, talent, and
2 skill on the field;
3 Whereas, Quarterback Aidan Leffler's 5-yard scoring pass
4 to Michael Gallagher marked the first points of the game, and
5 the Royals quickly followed with an interception by Skyler
6 Phillips that set Roncalli's offense up inside the Hobart 25-yard
7 line. A 17-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Lockard gave Roncalli
8 a 14-0 lead into the second quarter;
9 Whereas, Leffler completed two more touchdown passes in
10 the first half of the game, at 50 yards and 17 yards, to Cole
11 Beckman and Kyle Lockard, respectively;
12 Whereas, Roncalli entered the second half 28-0, with Luke
13 Russell's fourth extra point of the half, and started play with a
14 Hobart onside kick that led to a hand off to Royal Baron
15 Huebler. Huebler set up the offense for a 51-yard touchdown
16 pass to Kyle Lockard, giving him a third touchdown catch and
17 tying an IHSAA 4A state final record;
18 Whereas, Baron Huebler carried the ball nine times in
19 Roncalli's next play sequence, culminating in his 2-yard
20 touchdown dive to give the Royals a commanding 42-0 lead;
21 Whereas, The Royals finished the game 49-7 after Dominic
22 Brown returned a Hobart kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown in
23 the final seconds of the game. This marked Roncalli's first kick
24 return touchdown in five years;
25 Whereas, Leffler finished with a 200-yard passing game
26 leading to five scores and tying an IHSAA 4A championship
27 game record;
28 Whereas, The Roncalli defense played with skill,
29 determination, and grit, keeping Hobart to less than 200 yards
30 in offense;
31 Whereas, Veteran head coach John Rodenberg brought
32 decades of experience to his first season at Roncalli, and led
33 the Royals to victory. He is the fourth coach to win a state
34 football title for the Royals;

1 Whereas, Roncalli's Ryan Henry was recognized during the
2 award ceremony and received the Phil N. Eskew Mental
3 Attitude Award. Ryan plans to attend the United States Military
4 Academy at West Point or the Air Force Academy to study
5 engineering;
6 Whereas, The Royals' state championship win reflects the
7 hard work, talent, skill, and commitment given by each player
8 to high school football and the team; and
9 Whereas, This achievement will be remembered by players,
10 coaches, staff, friends, family, and fans for years to come:
11 Therefore,
12 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
13 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
14 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
15 congratulates the Roncalli High School football team for its
16 2020 state championship win.
17 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
18 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to head
19 coach John Rodenberg of the Roncalli High School football
20 team for distribution.
