HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No. ____
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the officers
2 and crew of the USS Indiana (SSN 789).
3 Whereas, The USS Indiana (SSN 789) deployed at the
4 beginning of a national lockdown during the global COVID-19
5 pandemic;
6 Whereas, The officers and crew of the USS Indiana left their
7 families and country behind during an unprecedented
8 worldwide pandemic in support of national security;
9 Whereas, The USS Indiana successfully completed the ship's
10 maiden deployment of 183 days to the European Command
11 Area of Operations with minimal material and personnel
12 support, thereby providing the template for high tempo
13 operations during a global pandemic;
14 Whereas, The USS Indiana conducted operations vital to
15 national security while completing their theater anti-submarine
16 warfare mission, in addition to an international naval exercise,
17 thereby demonstrating skill and expertise with military bearing,
18 professionalism, and the spirit of hard work and perseverance
19 for which Hoosiers are known;
20 Whereas, The USS Indiana provided invaluable training and
21 engagement, with Hoosier hospitality and know-how, for allied
22 partners from the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France,
23 Norway, and Iceland during NATO Exercise Dynamic
24 Mongoose 2020;
25 Whereas, The USS Indiana spent more than 240 days at sea

1 in 2020, successfully completing an emergent deployment to the
2 Northern Command Area of Operations in support of
3 Homeland Defense, because Hoosiers come when needed
4 without question, weeks after returning from a six month
5 deployment; and
6 Whereas, The USS Indiana "2020 Quarantine Deployment"
7 met challenges, raised the bar, and set the standard for all
8 other submarines to follow: Therefore,
9 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
10 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
11 the Senate concurring:
12 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes
13 and honors the officers and crew of the USS Indiana (SSN 789)
14 for their dedication and service to the United States of America.
15 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
16 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
17 office of State Representative Thomas Saunders for
18 distribution.
