1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2 Department of Transportation to honor First Lieutenant Clayton
3 Robert Cullen by naming a portion of State Road 67 the "Lt.
4 Clayton Robert Cullen Memorial Highway".
5 Whereas, Lt. Clayton Robert Cullen was born July 9, 1992, in
6 Evansville, Indiana;
7 Whereas, Lt. Cullen grew up in Bicknell, Indiana, graduated
8 from North Knox High School in 2011 as student body
9 president, and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in History
10 from Indiana University in 2015;
11 Whereas, While at Indiana University, Lt. Cullen joined the
12 Indiana University Army ROTC program;
13 Whereas, Upon graduation from Indiana University, Lt.
14 Cullen took an oath to become an active duty officer in the
15 United States Army, specializing in aviation;
16 Whereas, Lt. Cullen served as a member of the 4th Combat
17 Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division;
18 Whereas, During his service, Lt. Cullen received several
19 awards, including the Army Achievement Medal, the National
20 Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon;
21 Whereas, Lt. Cullen tragically passed away on January 20,
22 2018, during a helicopter accident as part of a training exercise
23 at Fort Irwin, California;

1 Whereas, Lt. Cullen is survived by his parents, Robert and
2 Julie Cullen; his brother and sister-in-law, Ian and Katie
3 Cullen; his grandmother, Kathleen Curry Pack; along with
4 numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and
5 Whereas, In recognition of Lt. Cullen's service and dedication
6 to his hometown, state, and country, it is fitting that his life and
7 service be recognized by the State of Indiana: Therefore,
8 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
9 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
10 the Senate concurring:
11 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly expresses
12 its deepest gratitude and sympathies to the family of First Lt.
13 Clayton Robert Cullen and urges the Indiana Department of
14 Transportation to honor Lt. Cullen by naming State Road 67 in
15 Knox County from E. Cardinal Road to N. Scepter Road the
16 "Lt. Clayton Robert Cullen Memorial Highway".
17 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
18 Representatives is hereby directed to transmit copies of this
19 Resolution to Robert and Julie Cullen, Craig Lehman, and the
20 Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
