SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Kenneth Weaver for
2 helping a student and his sibling escape a house fire during his
3 virtual class.
4 Whereas, On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, Kenneth
5 Weaver, a physical education teacher at Saint Anthony Catholic
6 School in Indianapolis, Indiana, helped save a student and his
7 sibling from a house fire;
8 Whereas, Mr. Weaver had agreed to step in for a fellow
9 teacher during a virtual class session, when suddenly a 10-
10 year-old student told Weaver that he had to leave the class
11 because his house was on fire, then turned his camera to show
12 Weaver the fire;
13 Whereas, Weaver quickly instructed the child to get
14 everyone out of the house and call 911, and followed up by
15 calling 911 himself to ensure that help was on the way;
16 Whereas, A mere four minutes after Weaver's call to 911,
17 the Wayne Township Fire Department arrived at the scene and
18 had the fire under control within minutes;

1 Whereas, Weaver's quick thinking and calm demeanor
2 helped guide the child and their sibling to safety, ensuring that
3 there were no injuries in the fire and that minimal damage was
4 done to the home; and
5 Whereas, An outstanding teacher, Weaver's skills go
6 beyond the classroom and gym, and his heroic actions
7 prevented a potential catastrophe from happening: Therefore,
8 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
9 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
10 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honors Kenneth
11 Weaver for helping a student and his sibling escape a house
12 fire.
13 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
14 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Kenneth Weaver.
