SENATE RESOLUTION No. 7
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the Governor to
2 proclaim 2021 as "Indiana's Year of the Trails."
3 Whereas, Indiana has a comprehensive network of trails,
4 and connecting trail segments is a powerful tool for economic
5 and community development that should be actively facilitated;
6 Whereas, Outdoor trails are used for a variety of activities,
7 including walking, hiking, biking, rolling, paddling, and
8 horseback riding, and the many miles of trails that exist
9 throughout Indiana have allowed countless individuals to
10 reflect on the splendor of our natural world. Without a doubt,
11 these pathways provide significant economic and
12 environmental benefits, but are also an important feature in
13 helping to improve the quality of life in our society by
14 promoting healthy lifestyles via recreation and active
15 transportation;
16 Whereas, Trails bring people together, as they not only
17 connect physical locations but also represent the bonds that
18 create communities. By highlighting the numerous trails in our
19 state, we also praise the innumerable people who have helped
20 make them a reality, and their efforts celebrate the beauty of

1 the world around us by providing accessible and functional
2 transportation to all people, regardless of age, background, or
3 ability; and
4 Whereas, At a time when many communities seem more
5 concerned with urbanization than with conservation, it is fitting
6 we salute the individuals who have served as the caretakers of
7 our public resources. Through their hard work and enthusiasm,
8 the citizens of Indiana have demonstrated an unparalleled spirit
9 of cooperation, and we applaud and support all those
10 responsible for the success of these noteworthy trails that serve
11 to repurpose land in valuable ways: Therefore,
12 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
13 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
14 SECTION 1. That the Indiana State Senate urges Governor
15 Holcomb to proclaim 2021 as "Indiana's Year of the Trails,"
16 and encourages all Hoosiers to take advantage of their local and
17 regional trail networks, do their part to further enhance
18 Indiana's trail networks, and pay tribute to everyone who has
19 labored to maintain and enlarge these public amenities.
20 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
21 to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Eric
22 Holcomb.

COMMITTEE REPORT
Madam President: The Senate Committee on Natural Resources,
to which was referred Senate Resolution No. 7, has had the same under
consideration and begs leave to report the same back to the Senate with
the recommendation that said resolution DO PASS.
