1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION memorializing John
2 Schoffstall.
3 Whereas, Firefighter John Andrew Schoffstall passed away
4 on April 12, 2020;
5 Whereas, John was born on November 21, 1978, in Terre
6 Haute, Indiana, to Rex Schoffstall and Patricia "Trish" Allsup
7 Schoffstall;
8 Whereas, John served as a firefighter for more than two
9 decades, including 23 years at the New Goshen Volunteer Fire
10 Department as a Training Officer, Captain, and Fire Chief, and
11 11 years for the Terre Haute Fire Department, C Shift Station
12 5;
13 Whereas, John participated in a number of firefighter
14 organizations including the International Association of
15 Firefighters Local #758, the Indiana Association of
16 Firefighters, and as a founding member and drummer for the
17 Terre Haute Firefighters Pipes and Drums Band;
18 Whereas, Throughout his life, John was a dedicated
19 member of the Terre Haute community as a small business
20 owner, volunteer coach for softball and West Vigo Youth
21 Football, sportsman, National Rifle Association member, and
22 Archery Trade Association member;
23 Whereas, While continuing to serve as a first responder
24 during Indiana's statewide stay-at-home order through the

1 Coronavirus pandemic, John was exposed to the virus and
2 eventually paid the ultimate sacrifice; and
3 Whereas, John will be remembered for the love and
4 devotion he had for his wife Jennifer, his son Jake, his daughter
5 Jaidyn, his adopted daughter Janelle, the laughter and humor
6 he would bring to every occasion, and his lifelong commitment
7 to the City of Terre Haute: Therefore,
8 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
9 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
10 concurring:
11 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly
12 memorializes John Schoffstall.
13 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
14 to transmit copies of this Resolution to the family of John
15 Schoffstall and the Terre Haute Fire Department Station 5.
