RESOLUTION No. ____
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing January
2 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
3 Whereas, There is an opportunity to raise public awareness
4 about human trafficking by recognizing January as Human
5 Trafficking Awareness Month;
6 Whereas, Human trafficking is a major public health, human
7 rights, economic justice, and social justice issue in the United
8 States and throughout the world;
9 Whereas, Promoting education and raising awareness in the
10 state of Indiana will allow all Hoosiers the opportunity to stand
11 with survivors of human trafficking;
12 Whereas, It is important to recognize the strength and resolve
13 of these survivors;
14 Whereas, It is important to believe them and provide them
15 with a voice;
16 Whereas, It is important to remind them that they are not
17 alone;
18 Whereas, It is critical that those seeking help or services have
19 access to trauma-informed, survivor-centered care and
20 treatment;
21 Whereas, Hoosiers must work together to educate one
22 another about human trafficking and pursue ways to prevent
23 human trafficking by addressing the systemic root causes

1 behind this issue, which include oppression, violence, and
2 exploitation in communities;
3 Whereas, Indiana continues to collaborate with local, state,
4 and federal stakeholders such as advocacy programs, law
5 enforcement agencies, mental health professionals, medical
6 professionals, and educators to identify, prevent, respond
7 effectively to, and ultimately eliminate human trafficking;
8 Whereas, All Hoosiers have a stake in preventing human
9 trafficking, and all Hoosiers have the power to make a
10 difference;
11 Whereas, All Hoosiers have the ability to promote dignity and
12 respect of one another; strengthen the fabric of Hoosier
13 communities; and build a safer, more just world; and
14 Whereas, All Hoosiers are encouraged to wear blue on
15 January 31 in honor of victims and survivors of human
16 trafficking: Therefore,
17 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
18 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
19 the Senate concurring:
20 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes
21 January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
