Summary of Legislation: The bill changes the membership of the Commission on Improving the Status of
Children in Indiana (Commission). It provides that the affirmative votes of a majority of the voting members
appointed to the Commission are required for the Commission to take action on any measure.
Effective Date: July 1, 2021.
Explanation of State Expenditures: Adding two members to the Commission will minimally increase
expenditures. The overall cost will depend on the number of meetings of the Commission, the mileage driven,
and the attendance of the added members.
Additional Information - The Commission chairperson will appoint two members between the ages of 18 and
30 years old whom have been vulnerable youth for at least one year after turning 10 years old. Lay
commission members are entitled to the same per diem, mileage, and travel allowances paid to lay members
of interim study committees established by the Legislative Council. Per diem was set at $75 per day in HEA
1001-2019 and mileage reimbursement is $0.56 per mile, effective January 1, 2021.
