STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS29546 / S1318
This bill provides funding to school districts to assist parents who choose to enroll their child in half-day
kindergarten rather than full-day kindergarten. The funding will be used to provide materials and training to
parents if the parents so desire and, if a child is not proficient on the spring Idaho Reading Indicator, the child
may attend either a face-to-face summer school or use an online provider to get caught up.
FISCAL NOTE
There is no or little impact to the general fund because the funds are already earmarked for all-day kindergarten,
if a parent uses this program, it will neither increase nor decrease the funds needed. The cost of the summer
school will be covered from existing funding as well.
