STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

This legislation will ensure that all Idaho residents continue to have reasonable and competitive options to view
sporting events of Idaho public schools, colleges, and universities as they adopt new technologies for receiving
TV broadcasts, by amending Idaho Code Title 48-202 to clarify that TV rights licensed by Idaho institutions
must be offered to Idaho TV providers on a non- discriminatory basis.
FISCAL NOTE
There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund, state agencies or intuitions, nor to local units of government as
no funds are needed to clarify this portion of Idaho Code. However, Idaho schools may see a small increase
in revenue as they continue to charge license fees or royalties and TV providers may continue to charge
market-based subscription fees.
