STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS28724 / S1166
Election day voter registration takes additional time and experienced staff away from the already busy process
of in-person voting. This bill offers county clerks the option to designate one or more polling places for election
day registrations. This bill also offers the option of provisional ballots to be used if a judge of the elections
is not satisfied with the identification or proof of residence of any voter or election day registrant. Provisional
ballots that are validated after the election will be added to the totals before the canvass of votes.
FISCAL NOTE
The use of these ballots is optional. The cost of additional ballot boxes for provisional ballots is a possible
expense, as well as additional ballot envelopes.
