STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS28534 / S1096
This proposed legislation provides for a new classification of catastrophic disability benefit under the Public
Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI). This will apply to police officer and firefighter members who
are catastrophically injured in the line of duty. It provides for disability enhancements, specific conditions
for payments, and periodic Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA). It also clarifies that a member receiving the
catastrophic disability benefit may return to work under certain conditions.
FISCAL NOTE
This is not anticipated to have any fiscal impact to the General Fund, nor to any other state or local budgets or
others participating in PERSI because the costs associated with this benefit will be borne by the police officer
and firefighter members that are eligible to receive the benefit.
