STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The proposed legislation is intended to streamline the process of awarding an Idaho Medal of Honor in the
recognition of Idaho law enforcement officers, firefighters or emergency medical services providers (EMS),
who were killed or sustained serious injuries that caused great bodily harm during the performance or as a
result of their duties, as described in this legislation.
FISCAL NOTE
There is no anticipated fiscal impact in this legislation. The cost of the medal for a law enforcement officer
shall be paid by the Idaho Chiefs of Police Association and the cost for a sheriff or a sheriff's deputy shall be
paid by the Idaho Sheriff's Association. The cost of a medal for a firefighter or EMS provider shall be paid by
the Idaho Fire Chiefs Association. The family of a recipient may request a second medal at their own expense.
