STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS27645 / S1332
This Legislation amends Idaho Code relating to Ambulance Service Districts. This legislation grandfathers
any existing Ambulance Districts. It will only affect Ambulance Service Districts formed after July 1, 2020.
It moves to standardize the process for forming taxing districts by mimicking the current process in Idaho
Code for Fire Districts. It would require a vote of the people within a proposed District during the May or
November election dates. It removes the governance by the Board of County Commissioners and puts in place
an independent Commission. This opens the way for Ambulance Districts to operate across County boundaries.
It also requires the support of any incorporated city within the proposed boundary before the election moves
forward.
FISCAL NOTE
There is no anticipated impact on the general fund. The legislation relates to Ambulance Service Districts and
would not require additional resources.
