STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

This bill is a follow up to the recent campaign finance reforms that took effect January 1st of this year. In
the new law there is a special provision, I.C. 67-6608, that exempts local government candidates from filing
campaign finance reports in local races "unless and until such time as the candidate receives contributions or
expends funds in the amount of five hundred dollar ($500) or more." It similarly exempts political committees
in the same types of races. This legislation would extend this exemption to judicial offices, which rarely receive
or report any contributions.
FISCAL NOTE
This legislation will have no fiscal impact to the State or to local government.
