STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS27483 / H0385
The purpose of this legislation is to update and clarify the requirements to become a Certified Medication
Assistant (MA-C). Providing an avenue for current Certified Nurses Aides to get additional training and be
certified to administer medications could greatly help with the work force shortage in long-term care facilities.
This is not a new certification, but a revamping of an existing statute that had confusing rules which were
eliminated this year.
FISCAL NOTE
There is no impact to the General Fund because the Board of Nursing is an independent board that operates
solely on dedicated funds.
