STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

This Legislation amends Title 33 Section 524 and Title 33 Section 5206 to allow children of military families,
with documentation of a military service member's pending relocation to our state, access to preliminary
registration, enrollment, or application to a Local Education Agency (LEA) at the time that the process is open
to the general student population. Proof of residency requirements are temporarily waived until the student
begins school. At that time, the student has a period of ten (10) school days to provide proof of residency in
the LEA.
FISCAL NOTE
There is no fiscal impact to local school districts as no new systems are required, and there is added benefit
to school districts by having a better understanding of incoming student populations, assisting school districts
in their projections of their student populations. If the State Department of Education determines that this act
contains costs to the LEA, reimbursement to the LEA shall be made
