STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS27133
The purpose of this legislation is to transition Idaho State Police's funding component that they receive from
the gas tax to the General Fund.
Currently, the portion of funds the Idaho State Police receives from the gas tax can only be used for specific
purposes and it requires significant effort from the Idaho State Police to ensure that those funds are spent
appropriately by transitioning them from a dedicated source to the General Fund.
If this legislation is successful, the Idaho State Police will be unencumbered in how they choose to allocate
all of their funding.
FISCAL NOTE
The fiscal impact of this legislation will change the apportionment of the Highway Distribution Account.
Beginning in Fiscal Year 2021, the Idaho State Police apportionment of the Highway Distribution Account
will be reduced by 1% per year until Fiscal Year 2025 when the apportionment will be at 0%.
